Monday Melee
This is my first Monday Melee which I will be doing every week from here on out! The Monday Melee idea orginated at Fracas and is a great way to start off the week. Quite a few bloggers are doing it, including one of my favorites, Blogitude. If you want to start using it on your blog, follow the link to Fracas for the information!
1. The Misanthtropic: Name something (about humanity) you absolutely hate.
The first thing that comes to mind is Calculus. It’s finals week here and I am working hard trying to understand a semester’s worth of calculus. No matter how hard I try, it’s the one academic category that I just cant seem to master. I am studying financial law and I can’t see how calculus would be used in that field at all. Tying this back to something I hate about humanity, I think that the people who run colleges need to give us more freedom when selecting what path we want to take in our studies.
2. The Meretricious: Expose something or someone that’s phony, fraudulent or bogus.
Universities country-wide. Those thieves. We buy books for each semester that wind up costing us around $400 dollars. Of course, they tell us that we can seel them back at the end of the semester for 50% of the value. Of the $400 dollars I spent last semester, I made $70 back. Between books being an old edition (they added a page to the unchanging field of calculus) and books not being used next year, I was able to sell two of my six books back. Penn State pride…
3. The Malcontent: Name something you’re unhappy with.
I am unhappy with weight. I am not complaining, but I have put on some extra weight here at college. It’s sad to think that last year I was a varsity athlete, and now I don’t even work out anymore.
4. The Meritorious: Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.
I need to give my girlfriend credit for being so wonderful. My birthday was a week and a half ago and she spoiled me. First I a new headset for my laptop in the mail. Then I get two pounds of personalized Hershey chocolate. Then I my favorite restaurant delivered to my dorm. The gifts are unending! I love her.
5. The Mirror: See something good about yourself and name it.
I think I am doing a great job in school. I have become extremely serious in my studies, which is a huge transformation since high school. I know what I want to do with my life and I’m doing it, one step at a time.
6. The Make-Believe: Name something you wish for.
I wish the summer would arrive. The days are beautiful and I find myself cooped up in my room studying. All I want to do is enjoy the weather. I can’t wait to hit the beach and get back to my old room at the family’s house. Most of all, I can’t wait to get back to my girlfriend.

I’m sure all that beer doesn’t help #3 much, either. Maybe you should switch to _____ Light. It has the added effect of making you have to pee every 45 seconds.
And while you’re at it … take a look out that window. Despite it not being summer, those first hints of soft skin are already showing. *grin*
You’re not kidding about the skin. Bikinis in the courtyard as far as the eye can see.
